Aggregator Affinity

Dmitry Jemerov: Come back in a month or two, and you won't be disappointed. :-)

You mean I should stop using Syndirella until then? <grin> I actually have been a loyal user of Syndirella for the last several weeks. The only reason that you are not on my blogroll is that I can't figure out any way to automatically extract this information.

Actually, the above statement about loyalty is a lie. I'm fickle. If I find a decent aggregator that allows me to sort and filer blog entries, I'll likely switch. Unless I go a completely different route and go with something like HEP instead.

I have to admit I don't really "get" the 3-paned-aggregator concept. If the entries from a single blog are going to get a page each within an interface I odn't see why I shouldn't just stick with opening them up in browser tabs as and when my blogroll tells me they've been updated.

I'd much prefer a single page that lists entries from all the blogs I keep track of in chronological order, starting at the last time when I checked the list. I think AmphetaDesk can do this with a few template tweaks but I haven't played with it enough to work out quite how.

Have you tried Flock yet? http://flock.sourceforge.net/ - a new release with search engine (Lucene) is coming up soon...

From the Flock notes: "Feeds are refreshed every 15 minutes". With no way to change that value? There are places where that frequency will get you banned.

Give BottomFeeder a try -

http://www.cincomsmalltalk.com/BottomFeeder

It's a free, open source Feed/Feed list aggregator. We support conditional get, and the update frequency is one of the many settings you can change. The latest release has support for plugins - third party tools (There's a simple IRC client and an MSN IM client available), and patches are delivered over the web.

Give it a shot, and feel free to send me feedback.

I just sent Dmitry a patch that adds sorting and grouping to Syndirella. Maybe you won't have to wait a couple of months after all... :)
