Verbs Suck

Joe Gregorio: XForms doesn't support the DELETE verb.

I find this very amusing.

Forget SOAP. Forget ReST. Consider the following flow. I POST an email address to a URL. An SMTP message comes to that address. In the body of that message is a URL. Issue a GET on that URL. You get a cookie.

It's just data.

It is a very big world out there

I find it amusing too, in a laughing-around-the-foot-in-my-mouth sort of way.

When we were discussing this last year, I left a few questions unanswered. The entrenched positions and emotions at that time made discussions difficult.

My focus at the time was on establishing the (not obvious to all at the time) relationship between the well formed web initiatives and the document literal style that many have been advocating within the SOAP community.

Now that that is out of the way, I have definate opinions on the insertion of concepts that are not semantically associated with transfer level concepts into HTTP headers and methods.

Like a good generic authentication mechanism?

Got a vaccine for that?

With respect to XForms not supporting DELETE, Sam gently points out that I am suffering from foot-in-mouth-disease....
