doesn't blo.gs pick up the changes from weblogs.com? from their about page:
"every hour, lists of updated weblogs are imported from antville.org, pitas.com, and weblogs.com."
Until these guys could work together, we are likely to continue to see the slowest response from the one server that does not pick up changes from the others.
Having a regional/national ping service like the one we have at blogs.unmade.com is great. There are just some 90 weblogs pinging at the moment and it has done a lot for creating a weblog community in Sweden and also a lot more interest from non-bloggers.

Federation?
I may not be reading this correctly, but it appears to me that Dave instead of federating we each run more servers that don't talk to one another. I must be missing something. In any case, it looks like Dave and Lawrence are going to move the backend...
