MT 2.64 Released

Ben Trott: We have also improved the options for available RSS templates--in addition to the RSS 1.0 template that we have always provided, the default templates now include an RSS 2.0 template instead of a 0.91 template.

Anyone have an example of an RSS 2.0 file their default template generates.

The changelog says they adapted it from the sample MT template in the RSS Validator docs, so it probably looks similar to mine.

For example, [description] contains only a plain-text excerpt.  [guid isPermaLink="false"] contains the MT entry ID and weblog URL.  Etc.  The major difference between theirs and mine is that they're not including full HTML anywhere.  This is consistent with their old RSS 0.91 template.

I've switched to the new RSS 2.0 template on my MT installation:

with a little tweak to output MTEntryBody instead of MTEntryExcerpt (but still disabling HTML output).

Tom - why not follow Mark's lead and provide both a small, HTML free excerpt for those that can benefit from it, and the full content for those that prefer that?

My automatic excerpting function depends on (1) being able to find your RSS feed, and (2) being able to find links back to my content in your feed.

Aggregators like SharpReader can link together blog entries that either link to each other or link to the same web page.

Users of NewsGater also benefit from the full content.

Mark, thanks your description of our feeds is correct.
