Safari implements it correctly.

Posted by Mark Nottingham atBelieve it or not, IE 6 supports overflow: auto--you just have to specify the width of the element as well. I found this while trying to keep wider-than-content screenshots in check--it was pushing my side bar down, similar to what Dave was experiencing here.
