While I did say that mature SOAP toolkits take care of a number of these details for you and specifically called out Java and C# for their Unicode support I immediately followed this up by pointing out that when these toolkits inevitably fail to handle some of the types of problems that I pointed out in my presentation, that you are generally worse off.
