Hardy Heron Alpha 5 on T61P
Hard drive arrived on Thursday, Hardy Heron Alpha 5 was released on Friday. I downloaded it this morning, and installed it. Twice.
Just for grins, I tried out Wubi. It picked up all my information except my password. I entered my password (twice) and increased the installation size, and let it go. After it churned for a few minutes, it told me I had to reboot. In the boot menu, there is now a third option: Ubuntu. Selecting it caused me to proceed to the Ubuntu installation, which required a second boot after done. Selecting Ubuntu again worked flawlessly: video, audio, wireless etc were all picked up. Per the FAQ, suspend/resume doesn’t work under Wubi.
I briefly looked into KVM and QEMU, but the instructions I found require me to install a new copy of windows instead of making use of the version of Windows that I already have installed.
I then proceeded to install on a clean hard drive. Again, the installation went flawlessly. Video, audio, wireless work, and suspend/resume all work without the need for any restricted drivers. There is a restricted driver available for video, but it causes Firefox to miscompute the DPI (workaround) and fail to suspend/resume. I’m sticking with the open source driver for now.
Not happy with the initial font selection for Firefox 3 Beta 3. Some sites look fine. Mine does not. Will need to play with that a bit.
Swapping back to Windows hard drive, I note that the time is GMT. Here's a way to fix that.
