Planet Apache Upgrades
PlanetApache now is planet.apache.org/committers. The software has been updated to the latest version of Venus. The template has been updated to the same one that I’ve evolved with Planet Intertwingly. Highlights:
- A Feed Autodiscovery link added for easier subscription.
- An Atom feed was added. RSS formats continue to be provided.
- Dates headers are less obtrusive.
- Times (and dates) are localized to your time zone (hover over times to see GMT).
- Content is served as XHTML to browsers that support such, which means that inline SVG and MathML now work.
- A memes list (complete with feed) shows what topics are “hot” in the ASF crowd. If you hover over an item, you can see who is talking about a particular topic.
- The subscriptions list can now be collapsed.
- Inactive and problem feeds now are indicated via a red underscore. Hover over the item to see the issue. The hope is that this will attract volunteers to clean up the config.ini, or to get people who haven’t posted in a while to consider doing so.
- Hover over active subscriptions to see a list of recent posts.
- If enabled, “J” and “K” keys can be used to quickly navigate forward and backwards through the items.
- Corners are rounded (Gecko and Webkit based browsers only).
- Fetching is now multithreaded, making the final results of the hourly scan available quicker.
There also is an ASF planet index page which provides more background and encourages volunteers to come forward and help create and maintain more planets. I love the graphic.
