Zing grew from my last attempt at a name, PubZinc. I think this one flows better and I'll add in the quote by AsbjornUlsberg:
Zing is a much better name. It's a spin on Sing, which is a happy word. The Z also gives Jazz-associations, which already has been proposed as a name for this project.

Google returns 192,000 hits, but breezing through a few of the pages I found nothing to similiar. Most notable would be Zing.com, which is a 3D game and chat website. Nothing on on SourceForge and the USPTO had plenty of uses for the name, but nothing similiar to this project.

[AdamKinney] I just want to give credit to jayseae and his Nota icons for acting as a template for these icons.
[SamRuby] From dictionary.com: To attack verbally; criticize sharply: zing an opponent in a debate.
[AsbjornUlsberg] From Clue, I can also read: To whistle, sparkle, squeal, shriek, screech. So it doesn't necessarily have to mean something negative.
[AdamRice] Indeed. The first thing I thought of was Zing! Went the strings of my heart.
[jayseae] I like Zing. Not sure of the usability, but I like it. If we're worried about dictionary definitions, how about these from m-w.com: to make or move with a humming sound; zip, speed; to hit suddenly; to criticize in a pointed or witty manner . Only the first is probably something you don't want from your computer. The third could be bad - it could also be taken as an epiphany. The last is a blog if I've ever heard it. Naturally, this isn't all about blogs. Just something to think about.
[AdamKinney] Yeah I like it, I think its grown on me some more. I even thought I'd attempt new logo for it. Zing has all good connatations for me; speedy, energetic, and even tasty.
[jayseae] Chicken probably isn't the most appropriate taste-test for a name on a Wiki! How about The Other Zingers instead? In semi-serious mode: I like the sound and shortness of Zing, but the meaning may not be immediate. Not that Atom, Echo, Pie or even Nota are any better at this. Just something to think about. Zing definitely seems more neutral - no direct meaning assigned to it, and that's not a bad thing. Added some new icons, to (hopefully) help the wheels turn. Hope you don't mind.
