Burning Threads
Stephen O’Grady: If I want to output to Atom from WordPress then, I have two problems: first, outputting the comment counts to the feed, and second getting FeedBurner to recognize the thread elements. Problem one is easily solved, from what James Snell tells me. Problem two is more complicated. My choices seem to be a.) sacrifice my comment count, b.) write a FeedFlare element that will handle RFC 4685, or c.) persuade someone at FeedBurner to support it
I must say that the out-of-the-box experience here is a bit suboptimal.
Given my prior interactions with Eric Lunt, I would be surprised if FeedBurner treats silent data loss in the context of a valid feed as anything but a bug that needs to be promptly fixed. I would also hope that digital signatures are also supported as it looks like their importance will be rising over the next few months.
Similarly, if there is data which WordPress can readily make available, and there is a standard place to put it, I would hope that WordPress also treats this like a routine and low risk bug report.
