I joined IBM in 1981 with a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics and a minor in Computer Science. I started in what was then the Federal System's Division in Gaithersburg, Maryland. I moved to Raleigh and joined IBM's Software Group in 1991. I started working on open source and open standards in 1999 where I quickly attained industry wide recognition and leadership positions in multiple organizations.
