Applied to Unicode, "small children", (i.e., people who are prone to view source and then proceed to "do the simplest thing that could possibly work") are likely to:

• Not worry about encodings. 
• Take the defaults. 
• Do things like strcat. 
• Build aggregators that copy data from multiple sources. 
• Leave it to the underlying browser to clean up the resulting mess.
